Library Policies and Procedures
- The Ryder Library is open from 8:00 am to 3:15 pm on every school day. Students may check out books between 2:20 and 3:00 every day during Open Library time and during their regularly scheduled library class.
- All classes visit the library once every six days for their regularly scheduled library class.
- PreK and Kindergarten students are allowed to check out 1 book at a time. Students in 1st and 2nd grade are allowed to check out 2 books OR 1 book and 1 magazine at a time.
- Books and magazines have a circulation period of 8 days.
- Students are not allowed to check out reference or audiovisual materials

Overdues and Lost/Damaged Books
First and second grade students may have a maximum of two items out at any given time.Students who have one overdue item may borrow one additional item. Students with two overdue items will have borrowing privileges suspended until at least one item is returned. Kindergarteners and PreK may have one item out at any given time and may not borrow another item if they have an overdue.
Overdue notices will be sent home periodically.
If a book is lost or is damaged beyond repair, students will be billed for the replacement cost of that item and borrowing privileges will be reinstated once payment is received. Payment will be reimbursed for books that are found and returned to the library in good condition.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Ryder Elementary Library is to create a student-centered learning environment in which students are supported in seeking information for both academic and recreational needs. The Library program guides students to appreciate a broad scope of literature in promotion of lifelong learning and endless curiosity.
In addition, the Ryder Library program seeks to help students acquire foundational 21st-century information literacy and technology skills that may be built upon throughout their academic careers. As an essential curricular partner, the goal of the Ryder Library Program is to collaborate with faculty on lessons that enrich and expand the classroom curriculum and integrate aspects of information literacy. Beyond instruction, the Ryder Library is also a source for professional development, technology training, and resource compilation.
